About the Project

The Country Doctor dental building was built to serve an urgent need to provide quality dental treatment for low-income and homeless patients in Seattle while also offering full wrap-around services.

When Mike Weller joined the project team in 2017, planning, fundraising, and permitting were complete, and construction had just started. The organization’s Executive Director had recently come on board and quickly realized that managing a construction project on top of an ED’s day-to-day responsibilities was just too much.

Mike served as the owner’s representative for the remainder of the project while also taking ownership of the project budget, managing communication with the project’s construction lender, and supporting Country Doctor’s accounting team in making sure grant reimbursement requests were complete.

Located in a neighborhood commercial zone, the building maximized the square footage allowed for medical uses to provide 8 dental chairs and an additional floor of staff offices. The additional building area was used for 8 market-rate apartments, which yield a source of ongoing financial support for the Country Doctor while also providing much-needed housing.

Fun Fact

The project included permitting for and installation of a private conduit under an adjacent alley to connect the new dental building’s IT systems with the existing Country Doctor Clinic building next door.
